From A Heritage Farm to A Royal Farming Project Model

Bhuchan (meaning: moon mountain) Farm was founded by Chansri (meaning: beautiful moon), a Lao-Thai rice milling business owner. After he passed, the farm belonged to Nittaya, his daughter. Nittaya, together with her husband, decided to fully relocate from Bangkok and became full-time mango growers and nature conservationists in Kalasin. Over a decade, they rehabilitated the abandoned, mostly arid farm into Southeast Asia's largest mini-mango orchard and an evergreen sanctuary of Thailand's most precious woods.

On the Path to Sustainability

Bhuchan Farm currently operates on a hybrid power system with the goal of transitioning to 100% renewable energy in the future. It has been selected as one of the nationwide model farms for the royal sustainable farming project, the "Khok Nong Na Model," in recognition of its success in implementing a regenerative farming system. Our GAP-accredited farm also won a Distinguished Farm Award from the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operatives and, due to its vast area of different evergreen trees, the farm is granted the membership of a carbon credit program. The farm staff are also certified farmers. Currently, Bhuchan Farm serves as the model farm to the large-scale mini-mango farmers' network of Thailand.

Nittaya Kanhachat

Nittaya, together with her husband, Sanan, introduced mini mangoes to Kalasin for the first time in her farm back in the early 2000's. They preserved the mini mango seeds from Sanan's family backyard in Pattani as they were afraid that family's quality mini mango trees would be left abandoned to perishment due to the ongoing unrest in the area. And they were right. Through trial and error, they have revitalised Nittaya's empty farm into an evergreen santuary for biodersity where premium quality mini mangoes are also grown. Currently, Nittaya chairs Large-Scale Mini Mango Community Enterprise where she shares her mango growing knowledge with the members as well as co-creating farming facilities and trade opportunities with Siam Biotrade.

Bank Srimuang

Bank is an ex-military ranger who volunteered to serve in the unrest in the deep south which is his hometown. During his military duty, Sanan Kanhachat, who is his uncle, invited him to stay at Bhuchan Farm. After he completed his duty, he went to Bhuchan Farm and has never left since. Bank is now our farm manager who enjoys taking care of mini mangoes and a pack of our adopted dogs as well as applying agricultural technology and carbon auditing measures provided by Siam Biotrade to the farm to improve efficiency and alleviate the effects of climate change.

Dam Somkid

Dam is a staff member who has been with us since the start of Bhuchan Farm back in early 2000's when we still did not have any recognition. He did not have many opportunities in life due to his disability. However, at Bhuchan Farm, he excels at things he does. He and his family have enjoyed better quality of life due to the success of Bhuchan Farm. With the facility support of Siam Biotrade, he is now a frequent visitor to our co-working space in Kalasin where his online English class and seminars on Zoom are held.
